"My opinion is that death penalty should be legalized. Specially, nowadays, in the modern contemporary societies, where crime rates are increasing at an unstoppable rate. Now, even though having the complete knowledge that crime is illegal and can be severely punished, people don't hesitate to kill, rape, steal and so on. Till when shall we continue to bear those horrible and monstrous criminals that commit so easily without giving a second thought to either the victims or their families and still, how many of them are able to escape so easily and live a free life. Shall we continue to accept this injustice ? And, what about those psychopaths and serial killers? Should they really be given a second chance? Do they really deserve it?People do no longer respect and abide by the society's rules. They do not have the fear of facing consequences. They are being given freedom and forgiveness so easily. They are taking the laws and judiciary for fun. Hence, death penalty will establish that fear and even though if its a fear, at least some fatal crimes will be reduced. Sometimes, as we cannot always extinguish fire with water, we have to make use of fire itself."
"Sam, that is a reply to you. Well, that is true that cyber hacking will rise in the near future, but, death penalty cannot be used for such misdemeanors . Hacking and stealing information are crimes but are not as serious as murder or rapes. However , if there are similarly such serious cyber crimes that arise, then death penalty should be an equal punishment to those using technology to commit crimes. It will undoubtedly still be useful."
"That is true but how about in the future? In the future, people will start to commit crimes like cyberhacking and checking out people's information than would the Death Penalty be useful till then?"
"Gavin, that is a reply to you! Let me tell you, maybe you don't know, so let me INFORM YOU that extinguishing fire with fire sometimes is the only solution, as making use of water is not enough. Similarly, simply correction and prison is not enough sometimes for horrible criminals, then death penalty is the ONLY WAY."
"you can't extinguish fire with fire, it will only make it worse"
"I think that yes, the death penalty should be allowed, BUT, to an extent. The extents being-- Rape of child (18 or under)-- Genocide ( murder of more than one person)-- Murder of a child-- Kidnapping for over a year-- Torture of any kindAnd i'm not the only to agree with this even our president Donald trump agreed with this statement. "The death penalty. It should be brought back and it should be brought back strong... They say it's not a deterrent. Well, you know what, maybe it's not a deterrent but these two [men convicted of killing two police officers in Hattiesburg, MS] will not do any more killing. That's for sure." - Donald J Trump"
"I'm a con on the death penalty, but if it has these extents then I will be fine"
"so if you were raped and you were 19 or older "too bad"otherwise i agree with you."
"This also is the guy that thought that wasting 5.2 Billion dollars on a wall will keep the Mexicans out, even though they can climb over it, swim around it, dig under it, etc."
"I'm sure that if those two men were in prison for life they wouldn't be killing a police officer again either."
"Ya know, I was going to agree, even though you misrepresented genocide, which is the murder of a group of 20 or more, but whatever. But then you had to quote trump. And how does he agree with your extents???? It literally says "it should be brought back strong" That is all he specifies!!! Think on this."
"what if the person did nothing wrong and you kill them huh. that's another reason for the government to kill again"
"i agree to an extent to the kidnapping it should be of any kind under a year but i loved your stament"
"Genocide is the extinguishing of an entire race."
"I think Death Penalty should be brought back If someone kills someone they should die SIMPLE"
"I am a junior in highschool who has to do a persuasive essay as homework I'm hella bored so I'm writing this, I don't know if it should be allowed I think it depends on how bad the crime is and it shouldn't be allowed till the person is without a doubt guilty"
"I am a student in China university, the persuasive essay is also my homework. We must write it in English about 1000 words, I feel awful"
"I'm also doing a persuasive essay in 7th grade and I'm with the death penalty."
"lol I'm a sophomore in high school doing an argumentative essay on whether there should be a death penalty in the U.S or not. I chose yes for there are more pros than cons, and it, to me, is generally easier to argue for. Nonetheless, I would have chose yes to death, essay or not."
"Better to kill criminals instead of criminals killing more innocent people."
"Once they die they'll never commit that crime again"
"Once they get life in prison they'll never commit the crime again."
"but there relatives would. if we kill them people will just start committing more crimes. and instead of decreasing it by a large amount."
"Have you heard of the Oklahoma City bombing? A man drove a truck filled up with fertilizer in order to make it and over sized bomb, to a military government complex, set and explosive cap in it, and blew it up. Killing 168 people. And guess what? 19 of those victims were six and under. You can't possibly tell me that that person is supposed to go off to a prison and stay there for life, when he murdered 19 toddlers knowing full well there was a nursery nearby. Hundreds of people were wounded, and some people didn't even get the body back of their friends, family and spouses. He had an accomplice and they were both put to death. Before he got put to death, mobs were shouting at him, and one of the most common names, was "baby killer." If we hadn't had the death penalty, think of how cruel that would have been to the new parents who lost their babies in less than three years. Think of how heartbroken they would be. That isn't justice. That isn't fair, that isn't equal. And if anything the death sentence is as close to justice as it got. Criminals like this shouldn't get to live. They forfeited that privilege when they committed that crime. And if a second bombing happens somewhere else, and you lose someone, you'd want it too."
"OKAY. So if someone in your family was just murdered, you wouldn't be mad. Ha. Yeah right. I'm sure that if you actually loved your family member that was BRUTALLY MURDERED you would probably be HATING that murderer for taking their life. Tell me I'm not right. You all who believe the death penalty is not good are all such liberals. You con people are basically saying that it's okay if someone murders your family and then be let off the hook. Sure, they can be sentenced to life in prison but who are we kidding plenty of people are able to get out earlier. How would you know if they were actually a changed person? I'm sure you wouldn't want that person back on the streets. Have some empathy GUYS. Where'd your brain go. So your saying that murdering is okay. Also, if the death penalty were allowed, then could-be murderers may remember that they could be killed for murdering others and they may stop themselves from being a blodd thirsty murderer. BOOM. Problem solved. You just saved two lives. DUH."
"No one on the con side has said anything about murder being okay. By supporting the death penalty, that's actually what you're saying."
"Turn the situation around. Someone in your family just murdered someone. It was not your fault that they have done this, but you are never going to see them again because of what they did. Imagine that this person is important to you. Your parents? Siblings? You loved this person, but now they are being killed. Who is really suffering? You or the murderer? Life is not about vengeance."
"Well, i think that was a great reasoning. Obviously, nowadays, these barbaric criminals have become fearless and are committing atrocious acts, hence, the only way is to instill the fear of a death penalty. Thats the only justice that can be given to victims."
"If we put them in prison, they can kill cops and even escape and kill more innocent people."
"Though it is possible it's not very likely, they can get makeshift weapons but it would not be able to take out all of the guards leading to and exit"
"There is a slim chance that the person might escape. Even if they escaped they were caught once they will be caught again."
"Well if you have good security and good cops then there is no chance of them escaping! It is not okay no matter what any of you say I will never change my mind."
"As a father I like it more when I see these bad men off the streets and killed. I worry everyday because I live in the inner city of Detroit where men kill men everyday. It brings tears to my eyes when I see these murderers unharmed and not punished."
"what if it was you. you had a life children too how would it feel"
"this is for the 11 year old but they should have thought about that before they committed the murder or whatever they did they put themselves in jeopardy by doing that and deserve the punishment no mater what family they have"
"There is one fact I must point out. You are given the death penalty for using a weapon of mass destruction in civilians area, bombing a town square, or terrorism, a shooting killing many people in a mall. These people don't get the death sentence for killing one person, it is tens or hundreds. That is not right. That is worth of death. And if hundreds die, thousands grieve. That is also unacceptable."
"In any case, self-defense is the use of force to withstand against another being to protect what you hold dear to yourself. A majority of people believe that killing is bad but what does that mean for the life of the person who was murdered? Does their life mean nothing now? Are they an object that a child has no use for anymore and just tossed out into the trash? We have to ask these questions because we ourselves don't understand the value of human life. So this argument can both ways, however, I agree that no murderer should be allowed to walk away without paying an equal price for the wrongdoing they had committed along with rapists and other people who do a heinous act."
"It will decreases the amount of murders because who would risk their own life only to take other? Plus it would give people a chance to think about the crime before they commit it. If they have a family they will reconsider in fear of dying them self. A death penalty would also boost the economy. The sentence for death is life in prison. It takes a lot of money to support the prisoners. If you just kill them it would take some money but not as much. Therefore the extra money would contribute to the government. Another reason we should enforce the death penalty is because the ancient civilizations used it. They had a law that said, "An eye for an eye.""
"For people on the con side think about how many killers that should get the death penalty only get like 2 years in prison after those 2 years are over then say that they have changed but really have not then they get out and kill more people then what do you have to say like what if they killed one of your family members then would you want them to die to so that they can feel your pain?"
"If someone killed a person you love and the reason is that that person simply liked it, do they deserve to live? I don't think so."
"Well if they kill one person it is manslaughter"
"If a man purposely murders 10 children you're saying that he doesn't deserve what he did to them? If you had a daughter and someone murdered her in her sleep for whatever reason wouldn't you want them to face the death penalty?"
"You must realize that a punishment is more than just a punishment, it is a symbol of both power and justice. You see, if we got rid of the death penalty, then there wouldn't be as much of a threat for committing a horrible crime. If we got rid of it, instead we would feed a criminal, give them water and a roof over their head, and they could potentially escape. If we get rid of the convict they can never do anything bad again, and it will send a message saying, "This is what happens to killers and terrorists. They die." This will scare off other criminals, and discourage them committing such evil crimes."
"you say that people have rights to life, and that people have no right to take a life. That may be true to you but not to everyone. If a person dies and the culprit is caught and released or even put in jail for life does that make the victim's life invalid? does that mean the victims family doesn't have a say? do they no longer matter because the man/ woman was caught? i say the family should be consulted and they should decide the murderers fate. Not to mention that the American judicial system is meant to protect the criminals and make life so much worse for people like me. i had my grandfather murdered in front of me when i was 13 years old and the man was caught and let go because the testament of a 13 year old didn't count for anything."
"There should be a death penalty in completely solid, in the bag cases. There has to be very solid evidence and absolutely no doubt of guilt. That's how you prevent the death of an innocent."
"Then the death penalty would probably never be used."
"With the. trend mass shooting I have found some sats. So much so I have changed my opinion to PROIt cost more than the cost of living in many statesNo one in this country should pay more for a personThan his own family This needs correcting."
"I think the death penalty should be allowed because it is compensation for what has been lost"
"Well, you're not insane. :D"
"I'm on both sides. But I'm starting to lean towards that it should be allowed. Think of it this way:You get home from school and see your family on the ground dead. Blood is everywhere. Wouldn't you want justice for your family? Wouldn't you want the person who did this to be killed? However, there is a certain extent to it. If it's an accidental murder like a car accident, then no. The death penalty wouldn't be suitable for that incident. But, if it's a genocide, then yes. They came in with the mindset that they wanted to kill. They were fully aware they were doing it. If they were completely aware of what they were doing, then it's acceptable to kill them."
"killing a killer isn justice- its revenge.revenge is not an okay thing to feel, and it is just as bad as killing"
"If someone thinks it is right to take another life through cold blood then do not deserve to live in a world where we strive to live well"
"The CON arguments seem to miss one important point - we all die. If someone is given a life sentence, it IS a death sentence. Legal discussion gives the example of train and a lever - if you "do nothing" then the train will continue on and may kill 5 people - or no-one, but if you pull the lever, it will definitely kill one person (the prisoner). So, do you pull the lever? I think this argument is flawed - deciding not to give the death penalty is still pulling the lever - if the person is paroled, or escapes, and kills again, then those who advocated not ending the persons life should take responsibility for those deaths. Also ask this question if one of the potential 5 deaths is your child or loved one. When it becomes personal, it changes your perspective in many cases."
"I think we should make death penalty legal for all states, but when considering using it, you have to find extended information to furthermore prove the person is guilty and it has to be hard evidence, nothing else."
"The death penalty should be neccesary because people rape and kill for no reason and still get to leave"
"A major premise of most of the people in these comments is that killing a person makes you a murderer. However, the consequences of a code of ethics that may realistically apply to an individual cannot realistically apply to a society as a whole. In America's Constitutional Republic, we elect leaders who vote for or against the death penalty. If they vote for it, does that make them murderers? Does that make all of the people who voted for them murderers? As "Enter Clever Name" said in their comment, murdering is killing without lawful cause, killing is execution lawfully sanctioned. Some people view crime as a result of a psychological or biological factor that isn't controlled by the perpetrator, but it is more realistically generally a rational decision based off a cause/effect way of thinking. People do have a choice, they control their own actions, and if they choose to kill someone, the consequence of their action (which is determined by the society) is the repression of their autonomy and possibly death."
"an eye for an eye"
""An eye for an eye makes the world blind" -Gandhi"
"yes I think the same"
"The strongest argument in favor of the death penalty is that our constitution allows it, and our form of government allows citizens to determine whether or not it will be employed in the states where they live. In 31 of the 50 states, citizens have determinded that the death penalty should be available as punishment for specific crimes. Despite recent occurances where state legislatures have eliminated the death penalty, EVERY time that question has been put directly to the people, the people have indicated that they want the punishment available. Most recently, in November of 2016 the people of California voted for the FOURTH time since 1978 to have the death penalty, and the people of Nebraska voted to restore it. Media reports of a decline of public support for the death penalty do not refect the will of the people. The anti-death penalty movement is disingenuous and uses mis information, partial information and on occassion purposely skewed data in an attempt to reduce puplic support for the death penalty. The single biggest reason for a decine in executions is not a lack of public support but rather bias on the part of judges both at both the state, and federal level, who are opposed to the death penalty."
"The death penalty exists because some people deserve death, it's a fact don't be so namby-pamby. I can't honestly believe that you would still be against it if, theoretically, I murdered a bunch of people any of you CON's care about. If you still felt the same way in that situation, that I shouldn't die for killing your friends and family, well then we'll talk..."
"I think death penalties should be put out only for the worst of crimes not because of the one death"
"If you lived in a small town and there was an animal that killed some people would you just close it in a cage and leave it with the chance that it could run away and kill other people or kill it so that you wouldn't have to worry and you would be sure that it wouldn't kill again. Saying this a human that killed so many people isn't a human anymore, he is an animal or worse."
"WE HAVE TO HAVE the ultimate punishment for the worst crimes."
"Death Penalty is good, because Death Penalty is great"
"yes it is!"
"People are worried about a killer, a MURDERER suffering from 10 minutes of pain. What about the victims? The people they killed? It might be "inhumane," but isn't killing people also considered inhumane? These people must have committed a heinous crime to be on the Death Row. They have raped, beaten, suffocated, strangled, drowned, people, and so much more, and people are saying it's not okay to kill them? What has become of America?"
"when someone like the Golden State Killer kills someone, they should be penalized death. they're murdering innocent people. he should be hurt for every person he killed and then killed violently."
"if people know that they will be killed for certain crimes they will not commit them if they want to live prison does not make a difference because people will just continue to commit the same crimes because they think prison is not that bad"
"It depends what was done. You can't just say that the death penalty should be allowed and not give the purpose."
"If the death penalty is reinstated people will be afraid to commit crimesIt's logic ....????"
"I think that the death penalty should be allowed for this main reason: (I would write more reasons but I don't have a lot of space.) For all the people who say that if someone kills a bad guy and then we kill them, we are the bad guy. That is not true. (Or people that say: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind", etc.) There is a saying which says, "Repay kindness with kindness, but repay evil with justice". For example, if person A hurts person B and I hurt person A it makes a balance. The saying was "An eye for an eye", If someone took a person's eye and then another person took their eye, it would be a balance. It wasn't "An eye for an eye for an eye for an eye for an eye..." which means that you have one cause and one effect. (Not 10 people to continue.) Also, if someone you are really close to, like a family member got killed by someone, but then the killer died. You wouldn't be sad that the killer died since they did wrong. That's because there is a balance. Sure, their family might be sad that they died but they were the one that did the wrong act in the first place. Voilence is the answer when voilence happens, after a second chance. Some people might not agree, but that's ok. :)"
"Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time. PERIODTT"
"I think it should, But you should have to have good proof of it and you should have to do tests"
"death penalty is not bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"I think the Death Penalty should be federally legalized everywhere in the country. However, when we execute someone, we better be sure that they are guilty. To me, what makes the most sense is that it must be proven beyond REASONABLE doubt for conviction and life in prison, but beyond ALL doubt for the death penalty. We have to be sure that whoever we are executing is guilty. A rapist should be castrated and killed, and a murderer be put to death. Those who say that we meet "murder with murder", I ask you: If that commits a serious crime again, whose fault is it really? We do not meet murder with murder, we meet murder with execution to criminal as both an incentive to others not to spew hate and love and honor for the people who are the victims of these terrible crimes."
"Pro yes Death penalty is right"
""I believe mostly that the death penalty serves as a consequence for an action that, by law, is wrong. The law is clear that murder is wrong and if a person knows the consequence of this crime is death and still commits the act, they are foolish. A fool is one who lacks good sense or judgement. I do see the points that the con side brings up about innocence and being hypocritical. But, I feel that to call the executioners hypocrites makes you a hypocrite as well. We are all hypocrites in our own ways. For instance shaming someone for murdering a murderer is like shaming someone for lying to the devil, one who cannot physically tell the truth. I see both sides but I would have to agree with the side that the death row serves as a punishment for something that is unlawful." besides if they live they will be happy and then they might kill someone else then we will have a murder in our country"
""If someone say that, "death penalty can't deter the murderer because they would not think about the consequence they'll face" and I say "If they don't know consequence when they did the killing, they'll know after they go to the court. If someone need to think the consequence for deterring them to do killing, they might be out of humanity"."
"if one givth then one taketh is a good statement cause it explains the meaning of the penalty which is good"
"Yes, I think if you decide that you are going to kill someone and take away someone's mom or dad or sister, then you deserve to die, too."
"yes it should be allowed"
"YES of course it should be allowed, 1st of all if it is clearly established that the murder is done by the accused there should be no defense mechanism to work for him/her and he/she must pay for his doings. Once a murderer is always a murderer there is no going back. and why people somehow starts sympathizing with the murderer and completely forgets about the victim who has actually met intentional tragedy caused by the murderer."
"The bible says whom who sheds the blood of a man shall his blood be shed"
"i agree, but just saying not everyone is christian"
"bring back the hanging at the court house on saturdays and the crime will drop"
"People that kill other people are ruining lives and by getting rid of the bad lives will be saved."
"yes yes yes"
"is that a jojo reference"
"The death penalty is the only rational and moral response to some crimes"
"I believe that death is never the answer but sometimes it has to be the out come. Most people frown upon killing someone, but it is just like playing a first person shooter game or any shooting game. Your mission is to kill someone for others to survive. The death penalty is the same thing, in order to save others we kill some. Many more people die from murders, bombers, etc. So why is taking one persons' life to save many more so wrong? You might be thinking we are no better by using the death penalty but we are. Murders kill to make chaos, death and destruction. The death penalty kills to save, protect and restore justice. Leviticus 24:21Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death."
"The death penalty is needed because it is a necessary evil to ensure no one person will be allowed to be murdered or abused without severe punishment, such as death, for they will need to pay with their own lives, because of the damage they caused on other's lives and the destruction in their lives. This is why the death penalty should be allowed to people who have taken a life or several lives, for they must pay with their own life, even though that is not enough, unless the person has killed a mass murderer or just a murderer, for they are doing it with a good reason, a good cause. Therefore, the death penalty should be allowed in all states."
"i think the death penalty should not be brought back. And sadly that's my real name. :("
"There are 323 million people living in the US. A total 3000+ have been put on death row. Which is not even one percent of the US population."
"It gets rid of murders"
"some people deserve it"
"I absolutely believe the death penalty is appropriate for the most heinous of crimes. Rape, murder that is especially vicious, serial killers, psychopaths. It doesn't matter if it does or doesn't curb crime, what matters is that these types of killers don't deserve to have a life, eat food, read books, socialize, etc. So, absolutely for heinous crimes, especially those proven with DNA evidence. People are usually against the death penalty until it happens to one of their family members."
"I think that it is completely right to kill murderers and people that have done horrible things. I think that their only salvation is death."
"If I kill your family would you want me to live? Should I live? If you care about your family then you would want me to die, is a sentence in jail with the possibility of getting parole. That is not death, I could just go back into the world and kill your best friend. The cycle continues."
"Ohio legislators have opened up the prospect of having the death penalty revoked. The death penalty bill in Ohio should not be passed because it is humane, a needed consequence, and lowers heinous crimes. The death penalty has been in Ohio history since the 1800s. In these years, it has changed into an acceptable consequence. In a trial process, it is always considered last. The presence of the death penalty lowers crime in Ohio, provided that by eliminating murders, aspiring murderers are stopped. Although the death penalty has been around since the 1800 B.C. The history of the death penalty in Ohio has been a progress as Ohio solidified its laws and procedures. Ohio's death penalty began with a public hanging until 1885 when the penalty was changed to only take place at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus. With the dawn of advanced technology, the electric chair became a more refined execution, replacing hanging. Mohr states that "from 1897 to 1963 there were 315 persons put to death in the electric chair..." (par. 2). Declared unconstitutional in 1972, the death penalty was reduced by the United States Supreme Court."
""Simply put, to allege that killing murderers and killing innocent citizens are the same is to deny the distinction between guilt and innocence which is the presuppositional foundation of all law in the first place." "Rather than proclaiming the preciousness of life, allowing a known murderer to live is a declaration that life is not precious enough to justify the forfeit of another life as punishment.""
"I get the whole "if you stoop to their level to teach them a lesson, then you're not much better," but do we really want a bunch of murderous people still around? Besides, if you want to be more humane, the death penalty is a better option than spending the rest of one's life in prison. What if they escape whatever holding cell they're given? It's not likely, but still possible. Why are we wasting our tax money to help sustain their lives in prison?"
"The Death Penalty should be allowed, would you want your family/friends/self to be attacked/murdered because a criminal wasn't sentenced to death?"
"I've seem that some people have been commenting, 'what if the people convicted are innocent?'I'd just like to ask you to achieve a simple task. Please, think. If a person is convicted of such a horrendous crime that shows the need for the death penalty, then there was obviously enough evidence shown in court for them to be proved guilty. You aren't guilty just because the judge says so. There is hardcore evidence provided that allows for the jury to see and to decide if the defendant is guilty or not.A case of somebody on the death-penalty trial is innocent is quite rare, on my own estimate, 1/1000.This is death we're on the subject of. It is a serious matter. NOBODY would take such lightly."
""the wise don't expect to find life worth living; they make it that way". - Anonymous"
"the death penalty should be allowed because people who have committed murder should pay for what they have done to someone's poor family. if you take a life you should be willing to return yours. If kill people that have killed someone, then you possibly saved someone else's life. Sometimes the killer might commit suicide after he killed someone so why would people get upset if he/she still ends up dying...."
"If you murder someone, you should get the same thing you were given. If you commit a horrible crime, like raping a child, you should be killed. Murdering and killing are two different things. Murdering is taking the life from someone without a cause, killing is just taking a life. Some lives should be taken, others were taken when they shouldn't have been and by the wrong reason."
"the death penalty should be enforced. However, I think there are some things that could be changed. For example i think if you are to kill or rape someone and you got caught on the spot or have strong evidence against you then you should be put to death right away without the chance to have a retrial. I also think if they kill a cop then they should be killed by the same weapon that they used to kill the cop."
"I say yes to the death penalty."
"I think it should only be enforced for the dangerous criminals who can't be kept in jail and are a threat to other people's lives. If they are in jail and do not try to escape, then it is essentially murder. My opinion (not a fact) is that being in jail for the rest of your life is worse than just dying painlessly. I do not think that the death penalty should be abolished, but maybe the government shouldn't be so quick to kill someone because they committed a crime. They should prioritize the criminals as to who is the most dangerous to the public."
"yea this needs to be legal"
"If you are a murderer, the punishment is obvious! You asked for it!"
"Who would want to live with murderers?"

We are all hypocrites in our own ways. For instance shaming someone for murdering a murderer is like shaming someone for lying to the devil, one who cannot physically tell the truth. "They get the right of owning up to their consequences"
"When someone is murdered, a family feels mixed feelings, the most being hatred. They want revenge for what has happened to their family, and the death penalty is the perfect way to fulfill their hatred."
"Many people say it's so victims/victim families can find peace. If your peace relies upon the death of another human being, then I can not agree with you, but there are cases that need this sentence. People who just want to watch the world burn, those who refuse to see the errors in their ways and would do it again. Give the sentence to those who do not care about the pain they bring about."
"By replacing the death sentence with life imprisonment, the government will not only spend money on living space, but more prisons may need to be created to house more inmates."
"in some cases death penalties should be allowed for big crimes such as Terrorism in other acts of big crimes"
"yes because people think they can get away with death row and keep on killing people"
"You killed someone, so lets kill you."
"Yes. Some people say that some innocent will be killed on accident. Wrong. If the judge isnt totally sure, he/she wont sentance them guilty, and defintly wont give them a penalty of death."
"I agree to death prnalty because if there was death penalty ther would be less murder rape etc. in thr place the death penalty is reasonable after all we cant just let killers live because they might escape prison and kill more people and if thers death penalty we can keep the public safe"
"I believe the death penalty should be brought back because if a murderer is capable of committing a murder over a innocent victim once then they would have no problem doing again."
"The death penalty definitely need to be existed to remind those criminals for what responsibility they have take after crime or even for people who intend to make a crime. This is a greater way to keep our world secure and even safer."
"Why do we risk having these people in our society? they are criminals and have to atone for their crimes. If your best friend or family member was killed by some crazed madman would you want to see him gone? I understand that killing others is wrong, but with what they have done, it would make our nation a lot safer with these people out of our lives."
"Justice Stewart stated that the death penalty in this circumstance was proportionate punishment. "When a life has been taken deliberately by the offender, we cannot say that the punishment is invariably disproportionate to the crime.""
"I think we should kill them for there crimes in murder, kidnapping, rape and even abuse. These people should die for there crimes. It is like a tooth for a tooth. If you take someones life. Its only fair if you lose your life."
"If a person kills 1 or more people their life should be taken for killing another"
"This was written by me and I also liked it."
"The death penalty should be allowed, millions of innocent lives are lost and the criminalss donot pay a cost."
"People who kill other people should be heald accounted for their crime. Its just not right."
"The death penalty is also used to get criminals to plead guilty instead of having a long costly trial. It's also cheaper to have the death penalty then pay for them to eat for the rest of there life."
"one con people always bring up is how expensive it is to execute these criminals what people don't realize is what that money is being used for the majority of the money is used for lawyers and attorneys FOR THE PRISONER many belive the money is for the actual execution but that is simply not true"
"Yes it should be allowed. If you kill some one you should get pay back for what you did. It makes sense"
"Death penalty should be allowed because say a man kills 10 people and he just gets sentenced to a few years or life then he will get out eventually and hell go back and kill more people. He shouldve gotten the death penalty so he could suffer for what he did."
"I mean, does it really matter? If your gonna lose your life either way, would you rather have it be a slow, painful slog as you wait for death to pay your bail, or would you rather get it over with without the waiting? If anything, its more humane to give them the "snappy release.""
"I think that the death penalty should be allowed. The family members of the victims most likely want justice to be served. If the cost of people staying in prison for life is very expensive - food, water, clothes, a place to stay, etc. Also it might discourage or scare others from committing horrible death penalty worthy crimes. People might say "well it is cruel to end someone's life." I think not. You have to see the bigger picture and realize that they committed horrible crimes. They murdered and ended people's lives; for no reason! I also think my theory of discouraging or scaring others from committing horrible death penalty worthy crimes is true. The average number of executions in the United States over the past 3, 5, and 10 years will drop by 8.4%, 9.1%, and 3.6% showing my theory could be true. The killers that are getting the death penalty will not do any more killing. That's for sure."
""do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Matt. 7:12). If the Bible say it's okay.... then death/killing only begets death/killing"
"death penalty should be allowed for several reasons. knowing that people tend to commit crimes, and when they do that they regret it at first but then they do it again forgetting the pain they caused forgetting the way they felt and just enjoying the pleasure it causes them. whether they rape, kill, kidnap, harass, these are crimes. I would strongly agree that death penalty should be implemented in ALL countries, a rapist a killer should be vanished from humanity, cause simply theyre not human enough to be geranted a life"
""...Then in my opinion capital punishment is more moral and more humane than life imprisonment. Execution kills instantly, life imprisonment kills by degrees. Who is the more humane executioner, one who kills you in a few seconds or one who draws the life out of you incessantly, for years?" -From "The Bet" by Anton Chekhov"
"oh my gosh knowing someone who has been murdered over a robbery he needs to freaking die because its just sad that he is still living and is happy and living life when he gets out of jail there will be a killer in our country we do not need that HELLO! so the guy who killed my bests friends dad should have a death penalty. because he was a loving dad and did not deserve it ."
"Yes it should be legal but also illegal people use it in the wrong way."
"I believe that the death penalties is good. If you murder somebody you dont deserve to live."
"criminals can test our products.Instead of killing animals people who kill people can test if things are poison."
"As inhumane an cruel as that is it.. it is a pretty efficient system.."
"From research it was found that death penalty of firing squad is much less than prison because one year in prison is approximately $75,000, and one shotgun shell is about 29 cents. That is nearly 250,333 times the money!"
"It provides an adequate punishment for those that have committed one of the largest crimes, and it deters more murders from happening as much."
"Why care for someone that may be unredeemable? Just because "god" forgives us of our sins does not mean we have to forgive others. I think the death penalty would help a lot of families get closure knowing that the person who killed someone "near and dear" to their heart, is paying the price that they made that person pay. We don't have to allow lethal injections but I think hanging is the cheapest option."
"Life in prison costs much more than death penalty. From research it was found that death by firing squad is much less than prison because one year in prison is approximately $75,000, and one shotgun shell is about 52 cents. That is nearly 39,000 times the money!"
"we should put them through a vr test where they are put into a virtual supermarket and if they don't do anything bad to anyone they there free to go and if they feel like killing someone then they should get the death penalty"
"yes because you know ;)"
"if you keep them in jail and not kill them which means they can escape and keep committing that crime."
"Yes, it is much cheaper than paying for the killer's needs in prison for years. It is a complete waste of money. People should simply be shot and killed, a cheap and effective way to fight crime. Expensive executions or prison sentences greatly hurt the economy."
"It's not that easy."
"Yeah it is"
"It should be used because people will be afraid of the system, like Ashlyn said. If you have a family member who has been killed, you'll want them to be punished. They should be killed for what they have done. If the person dies, then that is good for police officers at the prisons. They don't want an aggressive killer to look after including everyone else."
"killing them is a good thing they can burn in hell god can punish them because they don't deserve to live."
"the death penalty should be allowed"
"It should, because it makes criminals fear death and plead guilty in hopes of surviving."
"The death penalty should be legalized. Picture yourself in this situation: You and your best friend are going out for dinner. You told them you'd meet them there. You meet them there and order some food and start talking about school, work and homework, etc. You start walking home together, and you say goodbye when you reach your house and they continue to walk home alone late at night. You don't see them at school, but your pretty sure they just got sick. Turns out they went missing. 2 weeks later... A body is found. our terribly sad and miserable because they were torchered to death. They find the murderer. Would you want them to die? Would you want justice? I would. Send me replies."
"yes. it should be allowed, because if one person kills another on purpose that person should pay back their life for the one who lost theirs."
"The death penalty and prison are not meant to punish the people who have committed the crimes but to protect the rest of civilization from those people committing crimes again. Giving a criminal life without parole, no matter how much more miserable it may be then death, gives that prisoner a lifetime to find a way to escape. and if they do, then they can commit the horrible crimes they committed again. if you give a prisoner the death penalty, they will be gone forever, and will never escape or convince the governor to reduce their sentence."
"" A life for a life" -Good trade"
"The death penalty has its purpose and is not cruel and unusual punishment. There are some bad people out there who deserve the death penalty, because there is not a punishment more fitting for the crime that has been done"
"I think think that the death penalty should continue because the criminals should face their consequences of their actions. Having the death will protect a lot of innocent people. If a person commites a horrible crime. But he or she doesn't gets a death penalty they will massacre more people and then there will more deaths then killing the criminal. This is why I think death penalty should continue."
"everyone always says the commandment thou shall not kill means we cant kill, but only 40% of people in the world are christian, and christains who do go physco and kill dont care"
"Death penalty helps assure that the future generation is protected from monstrous people."
"I believe the death penalty should be allowed because it can prevent those criminals from killing, raping, doing anything bad again; it serves justice to the victim's family and friends; and it gives the criminal what they deserve. Nobody should have to deal with the actions of another human being. Get rid of the criminals before the do anything worse. If they can murder, rape, sell a person for sex, etc., they don't deserve to be alive."
"Might I point out that most people who commit murders worth the death sentence tend to have no morals. With no morals that means they are perfectly fine with doing it again. And if someone is not given the death sentence goes and kills three children, your going to want to have sentences him to death before."
"Free up the jails! If they received life w/o and no parole, take them out that day!!!"
"If someone commits a crime then they should face the same fate as their victim."
"The death penalty is a good thing because if you kill someone you should be killed"
"People's shall be killed if they kill!"
"If people should be killed ( if they kill someone), wouldn't the person who killed the killer should be killed as well since they have killed someone as well? (" People's shall be killed if they kill.")"
"If one commits an offense which cannot be reversed, or reasonably compensated for, with no logical, ethical, or moral alibi; or if one commits an offense that permanently degrades any innocent or otherwise undeserving person's or persons' basic rights as a human being; then it is inarguable that the offender is not in any way beneficial to society, and has forfeit his or her claim to any of the rights bestowed upon birth. Therefore, having infringed the rights of another, the offender forfeits his or her own, and should be eliminated as would any other cancer threatening the life or rights of those deserving of those rights. The death of those who fail to understand the value of life and the rights guaranteed therein should not be an option, but a necessity."
"If we kill innocent, unborn children in this country, why should we not be able to kill those guilty of heinous crimes?"
"You're wasting resources on someone who's gonna die anyway. And rot in jail. You're killing slowly rather than quickly."
"The reason why the death penalty should be allowed is that for people who do bad crimes should die."
"People that kill because they want to shouldn't stay alive, if they take 1 or more lives shouldn't they die. When you kill someone you're forfeiting your rights. If someone killed your Family member/Family wouldn't you want them dead? I know I would. ALSO THE BIBLE IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO SAY YOU'RE RIGHT SO STOP SAYING "The Bible Says....." NOT EVERYONE CARES WHAT IT SAYS."
"I would want them dead but just because they killed your family doesn't make it right to kill theirs. Also don't disrespect the bible okay."
"I won't disrespect the bible if you don't use it for an arguement about life or death."
"The death penalty is necessary because "citizens should fear our justice system"Also, as said in the Bible, an eye for an eye. If one has killed someone, then he shall be killed, too. The death penalty is necessary for the United States, and it should not be banned."It is by exacting the highest toll for the taking of a human life that we affirm the value of that life. With the Death Penalty, we affirm to criminals everywhere, that if you are willing to destroy a life, then you must be willing to forfeit yours in turn."
"It should be allowed or if someone can take someone's life and be put in prison for the rest of their life so if someone can take a life they should be able to take theirs."
"eye for an eye"
"I feel that there should be a death penalty because it would be better than a life sentence in prison. I mean who wants to suffer in jail for the rest of their life. You might as well just end it and save yourself from a life of suffering."
"That's why people hang themselves in prison."
"Kill the bad guys"
"killing people is a good thing. At least you'll go to heavan"
"they made crimes they wont go to heven and killing is bad"
"I'm pretty sure you got it all switched around... Killing someone is taking away the chance of them doing something special with their life. And I'm pretty sure an inmate that killed/ raped 20 people isn't gonna go to heaven."
"i agree with you"
"Thats not true killing sends you to hell"
""An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" -Gandhi"
"Id rather be blind than see murderers out of jail or even alive"
"the world is already blind"
"Yeah, because Gandhi is a credible source when it comes to quality of life. He is almost singlehandedly responsible for the massive birth defect problem of India, because he told people to use natural salt that hadn't been ionized."
"And? If everyone is blind then no one can commit homicide."
"more like an eye for 50 eyes."
"it not about revenge its a punishment"
"If the murderer takes six eyes, then he gets one away.Seem fair now?"
"its not eye for an eye wrong"
"The death penalty has been shown with ample evidence to be an ineffective way of punishment. In fact, it has been shown that states that have insinuated the death penalty have more murders than those states who do not have the death penalty. It is the personal belief of many people that there is no such thing as "Killing for good". If it is ok to kill someone who has killed, is it ok to rape someone who has raped or abuse someone who has abused?"
"Killing a murderer is not the same as raping a rapist or abusing an abuser. Killing a murderer is preventing them from murdering again, raping a rapist won't prevent him from raping again and abusing an abuser won't prevent him from abusing again."
"We're not murdering them like they did to the other guy we're executing them"
""If it is ok to kill someone who has killed, is it ok to rape someone who has raped or abuse someone who has abused?" No, This isn't about revenge. This is about punishment. This is about discipline and what is fair to everyone. This isn't torture, this is for safety."
"Those murders you refer to aren't death penalty qualified murders. And first off you never clarified if the person killed an animal or another person, and the death penalty is a form of execution, not a pleasure. People abuse people to make themselves feel better and as for someone who has raped a person, they did it out of pleasure. Most rapes happen because the person is a sex addict. And the death penalty isn't there to get "payback" for the victims, it's there for justice."
"Your logic hurts my brain, Capital punishment is to kill people who have murdered one or more human beings, It is ok to kill someone who has MURDERED not killed. If we killed someone who killed that would mean killing the guy who killed the murder and then killing the guy who killed the guy that killed the murder it would just become a slippery slope. Murder is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another and killing is an act of killing, especially of one animal by another. But there is lawful killing and that is ending the life of a man (or woman) who has murdered."
"you say this is true but provide not evidence"
"where are you getting you source"
"and yet in prisons, people are already killing and raping killers and rapists."
"Yes there is killing for good what if about the terrorist of nine eleven what if they never killed themselves and were caught let me guess that you would just sentence him to jail for 120 years while why do we have to waste resources on a human being that was created by the devil why don't we just kill him"
"It doesn't work that way. I believe that if someone has been raped that the person convicted should be killed, not raped. It 's kind of like if someone has cancer and is going to die anyway, it is beneficial to end their life, just as it would be with a rapist or a murderer. It is beneficial to the public that this person is removed so that we won't have to worry about that criminal getting back and so that the family can have some closure."
"'AIDAN' In all actuality sentencing someone to death actually costs more money than it does to sentence someone for life."
"i agree we as citizens can't live by a eye for a eye."
"i agree with you the more killers that are killed the more murderers there are."
"i agree and it does not deter crime"
"So you endorse murder and rape on the first place. Then you run after trials and cases and make 10 more peoples life miserable particularly of the victims family in order to save a murderer. Think of it"
"its not ok"
"The death penalty should not be enforced because, what would happen if the person accused was wrongfully accused?"
"They would spend time in prison until the authorities can confirm they are guilty"
"Sometime the lie detector is wrong but we go through a longer process and they need 2 or more people to confess that he's guilty or he won't be charged at all."
"That happened before in the Sacco & Vanzetti Trial"
"That's why we have the rule "Innocent until proven guilty""
"that is why people stay on death row for so long so that all evidence can be reviewed and they can know for sure they are guilty"
"It won't be!"
"The wouldn't impose it if they didn't know for sure"
"but what if they werent???"
"hey eye for a eye"
"That is possible but that is why they are all able to request to take a lie detector test. If passed then no execution just time in prison, but if failed death."
"If we kill somebody who has killed others, than we are no better than them. The entire point of the justice system is to prove that we are better that those who have committed the crime. Stopping down to their level makes us no better than they are, so if people start to believe that killing other humans in this way is acceptable than our justice system will soon have no meaning and our society will be reduced to chaos"
"Does no one on the con side understand the difference between a murderer and a killer?! Everyone is saying "Oh if you kill the murderer than you are the murderer.". The executioner is not murdering someone when he/she does their job. The executioner is simply killing not murdering. Killing is taking ones life.Murdering is taking ones life without a lawful cause.People read what you are typing. If you're telling me that killing is wrong then I want to see what you do when an intruder breaks into your homes and threatens to hurt your family. Are you guys just going to go "Welp, killings bad yeh, so better take our lives so we can go fly to heaven and be all jolly there." Think people.""
"but if you think about it what dose our soldiers do when they have to go fight people. they kill to protect our country but by the death plenty we are having some one kill some one to protect our country. if it bad why do we have soldiers go risk there life for our country or die."
"Yeah we are because we are protecting our people."
"like somebody said in the pros, murdering is what the people are doing. And that is taking someones life without having any reasons. Whereas killing is taking ones life with a reason, which in this case is because they MURDERED someone. It's not saying that we are stooping down to their level. We are doing what is right for our community and the ones around us."
"absolutely correct my friend"
"We are killing people who kill people to teach others that killing people is bad. Ironic . . ."
"Good thinking alexa,Now put on some music."
"@Ayden you can call it whatever you want. punishing, Justice, etc it doesn't clear away the fact that you cannot prove that killing is bad by being a hypocrite and killing it makes no sense."
"No, it is what someone described as "citizens should fear our justice system" and I completely agree with them. However, I do not think that we should kill all criminals, just the dangerous ones who are escaping jail and creating a threat to the public."
"It's called punishing. Retribution, one that fits the crime."
"Why must we stoop down to the level of murder to demonstrate murder is wrong?"
"because if the gov show that they don't give a crap and they will take your life cause you did something that was really bad like murder or rape if they put you to death most likely people wont do it any more or they are going to die"
"We're not stooping down to their level we're preventing them from doing it again"
"And plus it costs more to keep people in prison."
"No human has the right to take another human life through vengeance. A human life should be protected at all costs, no matter the mistakes they make or the sin they commit. Those families who seek closure by taking the suspect's life is unjust and must find peace and security through prayer. Don't solve sin with more sin."
"I agree strongly."
"has your child ever been MURDERED"
"If a person kidnapped, raped, killed, and whatever else over and over again these get counted as 'mistakes?' No. If a person does this much wrong why let them be in jail? why let them live when they caused so many other people to suffer?"
"I would argue that in this case there is a large difference between vengeance and justice."
"There is no solution in your "argument". Are you suggesting we let all criminals go? If not, are you saying that the worst should be put in jail for life? Isn't that a death sentence - we all die, you know."
"about us paying for their food who cares? as a society we pay for everything else already do we not? like taxes and stuff. the government finds ways to take money from us either way so who cares? and also prison food is not even great. and that's and understatement."
"if a human life should be protected at all costs what should we do to the 'Animal' that killed them"
"Death is too easy for the criminal, would you not be content with them serving a life sentence in misery? Let them rot in a cell to rethink their mistake. Killing them does not bring back the murderers victim but instead makes us the murders."
"I strongly agree. Death is easy, living is harder."
"Hey Grace i agree with you so much if you don't mind i'm using your comment on my school project i will be giving you credit"
"But what if instead we show that if you kill you will die too. You know tell everyone and make them not want to murder."
"The death penalty doesn't even do anything!"
"The purpose of the punishment isn't necessarily to punish the perpetrator - if it was, we could justifiably torture torturers or murderers to make them pay for what they did."
"They don't have to serve a life penalty, if you serve 30-40 years in prison and don't get in a lot of trouble you can request an appeal which normally goes through then they just live on probation and they're back on the streets. Not saying killing them is the best but not much else there is to do."
"I hope you realize that sure that would be the ideal, to let them rot in jail but the citizens, us are paying to keep them alive and feed them, etc. Do you want to pay to keep them alive?"
"Yea i feel like that is reasonable because if you just kill them your no better but if you sentence them to a live sentence then they would just end up hurting themself and its would just be on them"
"they could probably just hang themselves at jail though"
"The famous quote by Gandhi does speak the truth: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." What does the death penalty accomplish? Killing may seem to deal justice, but it is not justice--it is revenge. What about the murderer? Don't you think even a small percentage of murderers could learn that killing is wrong; a small percentage could realize the fault in their ways? "To err is human; to forgive is divine," someone said. This in no way endorses such travesties against justice as murder or rape, but criminals are people; yes, they committed grave mistakes, and yes, they should be kept off the streets as long as they pose a threat to society, but killing does nothing. The law should attempt to reform, to teach, before attempting to punish. Is your "comfort" worth the heart-brokenness of the criminal's family? Is it worth denying a chance for the criminal to redeem themself or to deny a chance for yourself to exercise great compassion and forgiveness and to realize that the criminal carried great hate in their heart, and must be at least given a chance, an opportunity, to prove that they have changed? Love is a beautiful thing; the more we can integrate its beauty in our lives manifested in forgiveness, the more we live."
"Responding to Brian Nielsen part 2: Additionally, the death penalty is meant as a punishment. To say that it is a lesser cruelty than life in prison is debatable, but a lot of criminals prefer life in prison (a lot accept plea deals where they will confess as long as the death penalty is taken off the table for their punishment). If prisoners would rather die than spend their life in prison, then that is a matter of self-assisted suicide, not whether or not the death penalty should be kept, as the government forcefully taking someone's life versus you willingly taking your own are completely different. In addition, if someone is innocent of a crime, they cannot be exonerated if they are dead."
"Responding to Brian Nielsen: I in no way stated my approval of the prison system or the practice of sentencing criminals to life in prison, and, anyway, that is a different argument. I was arguing for the cease in practice of giving criminals the death penalty. I certainly am not saying this for self-justification. My argument was mainly a moral one, so it maybe came across that way. Logistically and financially, the death penalty costs more than prison and is not a significant deterrent to crime."
"Couldn't have said this better myself my guy. Using this for my class presentation because it's so beautiful. Giving you credit obviously"
"I agree that we should give them a chance to prove they have changed, but at the same time, I am disgusted that we share a name. It's great to have mercy but if they seem to have no remorse or any change at all, then they should die."
"Again, no answer here - you do realise that everyone dies, right? So a life in prison IS a death sentence. You are just thinking this absolves you in some way, but it is a decision that results in the death of the prisoner anyway, and provides them with years of potential torture and cruelty until death finally releases them."
"Many argue that the death penalty will be the easy way out for criminals. After all, of all of the mass shootings in the United States since 1966, over half of the shooters had killed themselves in the end, most likely to avoid a lifetime in prison. If they are killing themselves to prevent a lifetime in prison, would the death penalty be granting them release from prison, and therefore, be the same as them killing themselves? I feel as if this isn't a very popular argument for the cons of the death penalty, which is a shame because it is a very strong argument, I believe. Would it not be a more harsh punishment for them to spend their lives in prison?"
"What about the other half?"
"Why do we kill people who kill people in order to teach others that killing people is wrong?"
"They do it because they think it is the right thing to do the same thing they did to someone else."
"your name is amazing."
"So, tell me something. We're killing people... who kill people... to prove that killing is wrong. How does that make any sense? It doesn't."
"To show doing it will cause you to be in the same place as the murder"
""An eye for an eye makes the world blind"-Gandhi"
"Really bro now i cant see thanks"
"I think it should be abolished because many innocent people could get blamed for doing something they didn't do and killed for doing that. Thank you."
"Ever hear of "Innocent 'til proven guilty"? THANK YOU, FOR YOU POLITE INPUT ^_^"
"I dont agree because ur killing someone for them killing someone that is being a hypocrite."
"Alright, people. Let's have a little lesson here. "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" DOES NOT MEAN "it's good to kill people to stop them from killing more people." It also does not symbolize the golden rule. "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" means that if you keep getting revenge on people for the bad things they've done, you're just as bad as they are."
"In my opinion, taking someone's life just because they took someone else's isn't right. Sure, the victim's family will most likely want revenge, but spending several years in prison is better than getting executed. Everybody should be forgiven for their mistakes."
"while yes, I believe that we should all be forgiving, we also have to know that some people out there who would continue doing these awful, heinous crimes if they got out. A life sentence might not even be punishment enough. Imagine if Hitler didn't kill himself and got sent to the Nurnberg trial. Would you want him killed? probablyI don't know that's just my opinion :/"
"To be honest...ask yourself a question. Does it really work? Killing a murderer like it`s society`s twist on the Hunger Games. The twist, nobody is safe once a specific amount is killed..."
"I agree. The habit of killing one after an other, it`s just wrong! One who murders another is believed to need to die to save another! But to be honest, the death penalty saves/protects nobody! It is like the Hunger Games in a way. "May the odds be ever in your favor.""
"The death penalty is wrong. There are other ways to punished someone and when you seek revenge you are stooping to the criminal's level. And when there is a mistake, and someone is wrongly accused that mistake is equalivalent to murder. Also, according to a study reported by the New York Times, African Americans are 1.7 times more likely to be sentenced to the death penalty, so the death penalty is racist."
"The Death penalty doesn't work! As one of my favorite characters from a book said while talking to someone in prison, "If justice was done upon you, you would be beat, starved, tortured, and forced to fight to the death against an invincible machine. The only people who want to do that are the justice addicts, who are only slightly higher on the moral spectrum than you.""
"someone could be framed for murder and die because of it"
"Capital punishment has failed in many aspects. First and foremost, it has proven to be an economic drain where it exists. Taxpayers pay millions of dollars to keep prisoners alive. Secondly, death row prisoners are isolated. This isolation leads to mental anguish akin to torture. In states where capital punishment exists, crime rates are higher. States without capital punishment have lower rates of criminal activity.Condemning a person to death provides no justice. It only proves to breed vengeance, hate, violence, and fear among the people. Crime increases and, the number of people incarcerated in American prisons also increases. The United States already holds twenty-five percent of the incarcerated population of the entire world despite its population. Capital punishment is not justice. It is straight up revenge. As a society, we have confused vengeance with justice. The abolition of capital punishment would have several effects. These are just a few for starters.1. Crime rates drop.2. More beneficial programs, such as education and healthcare, would benefit.3. Less isolation of convicted persons leading to less mental and emotional anguish."
"if we use the death penalty to execute murders wouldn't that make us the same as the murders that killed people. So what i am trying to say is that we shouldn't bring back the death penalty. another reason we shouldn't bring back death penalty is because we fought plenty of wars to gain our rights as human and people of color but if they bring back the death penalty then that means all the countless lives we lost from fighting these wars to gain our freedom would have been for nothing."
"Killing people for a crime they committed is not helping us. How is America gaining anything from killing people? they're just as bad as the people who committed the crime. Crime rates won't go down if you put 35 people on death row. it wont do anything. In 2014 roughly 14,000 people were murdered. only 35 people were put on death row. what about the thousands of other people they caught for doing the same thing? We are just as bad as them. We need to make peace happen but it never will if we continue to kill people. If President Trump wants to "make america great again," we need to start here. The worse part is that we are exposing young kids to this. It's everywhere. We're telling them that it's ok if you do this just know that it's gonna happen to you to. what the hell people? Open your eyes and the eyes of others and realize lives are being lost. Family's are loosing their son, their daughter, their sister, their brother, their aunt or uncle, their friend, their wife for husband. I bet your opinion will change if the person closest to you got sentenced to death. Jeez."
"I agree about Killing for the Greater Good, but think about the grief of others, and how much guilt is put on the executers. I mean why not be put in jail and suffer?"
"How about the death penalty with reprieve? Let them suffer in the fear of waiting for death during the 1 or 2 years pending. Dead or alive, depends on his behavior. At least he's fighting for his life to be a good man for the next two years."
"it lets the person get over with it faster and they should rot and suffer in prision"
"In a way I believe in the death penalty but at the same time, if someone killed a love one I would want them to rot in jail instead of getting the easy way out. Most people that commit these acts probably already know the worst thing that can happen... Death.. so they may be prepared for that?"
"But you can see many criminals are fighting their every sources to avoid death penalty, like mental problem, drug addiction, alcohol, unhappy childhood......you can see them ripping every possible piece of feather from the angel for flying away the death like a coward. Think of it: If they really prepare for that, why don't they just kill themselves instead? They still dread that ultimate end"
"That $hite only applies to punching someone in the face or killing someone."
"There is no proof that the death penalty is useful. The only people who enjoy death of murderers are those people who say they are doing justice but really they're just hungry for revenge."
"Everyone who has never been in a criminal trial doesn't understand what pressure must be put on innocent people who are wrongfully accused of committing murder. What happens if the prosecutor says "we're going to seek the death penalty, unless you plead guilty." Can you believe the urge the accused must have to plead guilty, for the fear of being "legally" killed?!?!? The justice system is never perfect, so no one can ever count just on the facts to win them the case. Lawyers spin words and views, people lie, and wrong choices are made."
"You do know that the people on death penalty usually die on death row before the procedure happens. They're on death row for like 30 years. And how does it cost so much all you have do is kill person. The lethal injection and electric chair is unnecessary. If death penalty really matters, just shoot the person."
"Canada's murder rate has steadily declined and as of 2016 was at its lowest since 1966. man Cameron Todd Willingham was executed in Texas in 2004 for setting a fire that killed his three daughters. After his execution, further evidence showed that Willingham did not set the fire that caused their deaths"
"Death penalty is the only irreversible penalty if a further investigation finds the declared guilty is really innocent. Any other punishment can be reversed and perhaps compensated. Not the death."
"If we are trying to get people not to kill, then I don't think we are setting a very good example."
"I am against the death penalty , for the fact that someone may be put to death for a crime they did not commit"
"what if they were innocent and you are killing them which is the reason why they are there in the first place"
"We now have DNA testing, which gives a far more accurate result then it used to."
"Then that's like sentencing someone to prison for life that is innocent; it happens either way."
"Killing people is wrong no matter how you put it. Two wrongs never make a right. If you kill a killer, aren't you now a murderer yourself?"
""When a woman or man is committing a crime they are not thinking "Am I going to die after this. Am I going to get caught?". Your thinking about why you are going to kill that person, whether it be he threatened me and my family or he took your lollipop. The only problem I have is that everyone wants the other person to die but what happens if or when you kill someone. Are you going to want to die? Are you going to realize that death shouldn't be the answer? Now you more than likely have an incredulous thought in your head or on your face because you don't know the feeling of absolutely knowing you are going to die. Maybe it's true some people deserve that fate. Maybe it isn't. Killing them is the simpler and easier choice. Maybe it doesn't matter that now you've stooped to their level. Maybe it doesn't matter that they're family and loved ones will never see them again. They are dead and can't kill anyone anymore. It matters that you had to purge your soul because you wanted this person no longer breathing. Isn't it just better to be empathetic because normally when your choice gets harder you start to realize it the right one? Rotting in prison is worse than death. Why not give them the gift of a nice, cozy cell forever."
"No, because being in a prison is FARR worse then getting killed right away... death penalty is automatic death which they dont deserve.... a person who gets the death penalty has of course done something horrific so, they should be tortured or be sent into a cell in prison for their whole life. Prison is much more worse, its being isolated in a small cell with no one or anything.... soemtimes people go insane.. while death penalty, is death right away."
"I don't think we should kill people because what if the wrong person gets accused and they can't do anything about it. They're family is taken away from them, their car, their job, and they cannot do anything about it because no one belives them."
"The death penalty is one of the dumbest things of all time."
"My mom once told me there is a fine line between love and hate, now I see there is an other one between justice and revenge, and it's no better."
"Some people have been wrongly convicted for death"
"Nothing trump says should be legal"
"I agree with this, 100%."
"think about it... would you want to kill someone? you are just as bad if not worse than the one you are about to kill."
"I can't say that the death sentence does nothing. But there's a difference between wanting to do good and actually doing good."
"If California stopped maintaining Capital Punishment, They could save billions of dollars and they would gain 170 million per year. All of that money could go to support schools, medical research, and help needy people, not to mention all the other 29 states that support the death penalty. With all of the money, it could prove to be remarkably beneficial to the economy of our country, which could go to help repay the national deficit of 22.03 trillion."
"Killing and murdering are both taking someone's life. Just because they might have murdered someone doesn't mean that we do the same. We are better than them, and they can't see that if they are dead."
"I think that the death penalty shouldn't exist because you're killing someone because of something; that makes you no better than the murderer."
"I agree Devin"
"At first I liked the death penalty. But then I realized if you get accused but you didn't actually do the crime that is an incident life dying"
"It would be a far better solution to rehabilitate the murderer, fighting fire with fire is a good way to piss of family members and cause fear in the community. Everyone has the right to live. If the murderer continues to kill after rehabilitation the obviously your system is flawed. If the rehabilitation is successful the you are left with a functioning member of society."
"you guys that are pros know that most of executions violates the prohibition of TORTURE"
"no, because thats not gonna fix anything, and thats just also what I WANT. does it matter really what people want? its what people need, so people want the world to end, do you think that should happen?"
"The person has most likely murdered many people. If someone murdered a loved one of yours then wouldnt you want them dead??"
"I believe that we do not have any right whatsoever to justifiably take ones life away. No matter who they are and what they have done. If we then choose to do this, how are any better than they? The system is trying to stop killing not encourage it. We need to show that society is better than that."
"Wow that is amazing you are right. We do."
"no death penalty, yes it may stop murders, but what if the person who killed some one was sorry for killing the person they killed, and besides its unconstitutional, the 5th amendment states " The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides, "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger.""
"It's very unlikely an innocent will die bud, we've got an exhaustive legal system when it comes to murder, I mean O.J. Simpson got away."
"if you kill someone than you should get a death penalty because you took someones life so you get your life taken"
"We are all under a death penalty, in case you hadn't noticed. It's just a question of when and how."
"There is no "killing for good." Human lives are human lives no matter who it is or what they've done. All humans are born the same and shaped by their life and what they've gone through. Yeah, people mess up a lot, some worse than others, but they do not deserve to die. Taking their life makes us just as bad as the murderers; it makes us murderers."
"Considering mental illness most commonly occurs due to genetic inheritance, I disagree that 'all humans are born the same'. By that logic, all humans have the capability to consciously make their own choices, regardless of the detriments they have endured throughout their life."
"The death penalty is not the most severe punishment- life in prison is more severe. ProCon.org states that "States without the death penalty have fared better in reducing their murder rates then states with the death penalty." This means that convicts seem more afraid of life in prison then of dying. Moreover, this shows that the death penalty is not the most severe punishment. All in all this suggests that the death penalty has very little effect to none. This confirms that the death penalty is an easy way out for criminals as opposed to life in prison. Furthermore, Is the death penalty really just sabotaging the chance of reducing the crime rate?"
"death penalty should not be allowed"
"I believe that one who has a consequence to face should have to face them alive rather than escaping them through the death penalty."
"I strongly agree, think of yourself bieng in a life or death situation. if it were me, I would love to live instead of being put to death"
"It takes a killer to kill someone"
"Unless the person they are killing is a killer then it's justice."
"humans have rights. of of those is the right to live. if we bring back the death penalty, aren't we denying a human being their right to live?of course they have done bad things. they took someones life and decided for them to live or die, but personally, i don't think our government should do the same thing. the death of someone should never be in someone else's hand! people think that prison is not cruel enough, but the whole part of prison is to make prisoners think about what they have done, and sometimes, our thoughts can be a lot scarier than any other penalty.the death penalty doesn't only affect the murdere's, it affects their loved ones, family, close friends,..., and the death penalty has killed so many innocent people.my opinion is probably never going to change because i simply think that is is wrong."
"Yes, but the fact is that most of the people the death penalty will affect, they have already unfairly taken the lives of one or many people. This is just justice, " an eye for an eye". Would you opinion change if someone you know is murdered, and that man isn't killed for his actions? Yes, it would. There is evidence that most people whose loved one(s) was killed, accidentally or on purpose, wants justice."
"I watched a video of a man who had the death penalty and it went wrong, causing him to suffer a burning hot feeling in his body. They then had to inject all the chemicals inside him so that he wouldn't be in anymore pain. So I believe that the death penalty should not be changed because it is cruel and if it goes wrong, the person will be in serious pain."
"Well then we should just use firing squads. China does it and they are way more successful than America. We need to stop wasting money on expensive prison sentences and drug executions."
"And you dont think the people he harmed felt pain?"
"the point is for them to be in pain and suffer for committing such a crime"
"A person is a person no matter what crimes they commit. We all have a life so we shouldn't takes theirs. Also who ever flips the switch to kill them is really also a murderer. We should think if God would be happy with this choice."
""If you kill a killer, the amount of killers stay the same""
"Really, well, you are only thinking about the killers, what about those they killed, the poor and innocent victims? If you let the killers go, imagine all the victims will be made. But, when we will kill a killer ,i think the amount of victims will reduce."
"if a murderer is murdered, are you not the murderer of a murderer?"
"The only problem I see is how there have been a lot of innocent people being let out of prison but if they are dead there is no bringing them back."
"Citizens convicted with murder should not face the death penalty. The people convicted want us to kill them because it is taking the easy way out. Instead we should let them suffer for their actions by letting them sit in jail for the rest of their lives."
"Why must we kill the killers? A life sentence is more severe, and isn't our government built on giving people their God-given rights: LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?"
"If you think about it that person took that Persons LIFE, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness by killing them. So yes we should kill them"
"I agree with some of the con. I think we should have a lengthier Process so we know they're fully guilty. Lets not remove it fully and just make it hard to get on."
"I believe it shouldn't be allowed... They should suffer life in prison, like the families they ruined have to suffer."
"why do we have to kill people exactly? We have lost enough lives in this world and wars in the US may be coming in the future, so why kill each other when there are other possibilities that CAN."
"No, We dont have the right to judge the importance of other people's lives. So the death penalty should not be allowed"
"It should not be aloud because it is just like murder. When it comes the time to kill the person, they have several people press the button to kill the person so no one can identify who actually killed the bad guy. And like I said: It is just like murder. But what if they think the bad guy isn't actually the bad guy and they kill him and then they find out that he was just someone who looked close to what the actual bad guy looked like. Then they have to go the rest of their life knowing that they killed an innocent person. And once again: It is like murder."
"I think death penalty is an action used to make people suffer. It has no reason because if we die your giving the person the easiest way out."
"I do not think the death penalty should be allowed and here is why. I can understand why some believed that the death penalty should be allowed and how if someone murdered your family member that by killing them it will bring justice to their situation. However, hear me out, I do not believe this will bring justice at all. If one believes that by killing the murderer who murdered someone close to you, etc., thinks that that will bring justice then you have obviously been overflowed with too much grief, hate, and anger. When you express these emotions of anger it can completely take over what you may believe is right and what you believe is wrong, especially in this particular situation. I believe that if a murderer were to kill one of my closest family members, I too, would be full of hate and anger. I would not like to wish anything else but death upon the person who has done the wrongdoing. However, I would succumb to a point where I believe that though that person may have killed someone important to me, I would not want to be the one who wished death upon that person who killed someone. I believe murder and killing is not correct at all, and we must be civilized, unfortunately in situations, like these."
"No because its cruel to take someones life away especially if he only kill 2 or 3 people,i can see if it was a serial killer."
"The death penalty is awful! Imagine you killed multiple people, and you are sorry for what you have done, or maybe someone forced you to do it, or maybe you are even innocent, but yet you are forced to end your life. No one deserves the death penalty, even if you are guilty! It is murder, and we need to be more humane. Plus, if you end up at the death row, that is just torture. Please, believe me!"
"i think that killing is ok when justice is happening"
"I understand that families, or even communities may be very upset or even angry with the court because the murderer did not get the death penalty. But, what if it were your daughter, or your son? What if they were the murderer? What would you agree with then? You don't want to see your kid killed, but you think they deserve it or maybe not? What would you do? Answer in the comments"
"I never said that they accidentally killed someone they definitely did that on purpose. What i'm saying is that if YOUR kid was the murderer would you still agree with the death penalty? Not that they "accidentally" killed someone. In my opinion I would agree with the death penalty, even if it were my kid. They chose to kill that person, so they should deserve to get punished. I know I would be very upset that they got the death penalty, but always ask your self do they deserve it?"
"They should have thought about what they were doing before they took someone's life. That is a major no-no, and there is no way you could have ''accidentally'' killed someone."
"I don't understand why we are killing people even if they did something wrong but however I understand they did something wrong but. I also understand that their families are probably disappointed in that person."
"i think the death penalty should not be allowed. because We doing the same things if we executed a murder. For intant "In civilized society, we reject the principle of literally doing to criminals what they do to their victims: The penalty for rape cannot be rape, or for arson, the burning down of the arsonist's house. We should not, therefore, punish the murderer with death,"(The Death Penalty)."
"the death penalty shouldn't be allowed . you may want justice for someone , but killing the person that committed the crime isn't the way to go . it'll be on your conscious forever & the guilt will eat at you . plus , what is it gon do for you ? it won't bring that someone back . all you can do is forgive & protect the ones you love . because i can guarantee if it was someone in your family , you'd be screaming "free you" till your last breath , knowing what they did was wrong ."
"please no more death penalty, it is VERY unconstitutionaland what if the person who killed some one had a change in heart and mind while they are in jail? And what if the person who killed didn't want to kill. What if the person who was accused wasn't guilty and the government killed an innocent American? That wouldn't be nice now would it?" Plus it breaks Gods 6th commandment -Thou shall not kill. Yes the person killed someone but we wouldn't want it to happen again now would we?"
"No. Killing is Bad. No matter what. Give the Crook another chance,, or if the Police have doubts the Crook might kill ppl again, Butlers should be sent to guard the Crook."
"I personally don't believe execution is morally right. Even if it's a killer you're killing, it's still a LIFE. You are taking away a living, breathing person. And the victims... what makes their life so much more important than the killers? They were people and didn't deserve to die, but neither does the killer or the court members or any human in the entire world. You just don't kill people to teach that killing people is wrong. That is hypocritical and inhumane."
"Everyone as a chance at life, even the cruelest of people. If the death penalty existed, almost everyone should die, not because we're bad, but because we are human. It is in human nature to be evil and selfish."
"I don't think it really should be legal. Killing is wrong, no matter what happens."
"If you think about it murder is murder even if the person did something terrible we should not punish people to death if this was your family how would you feel. And have you even thought of if they were wrongfully convicted. I would feel terrible."
"what if they were framed"
"what if you were given the death penalty. then you wouldnt want it. why? becasue your the one being killed. and thats wrong. so why is it considered rightto kill someone when our law says its wrong to. the death penalty also violates the eight admendment."
"I mean if i was the one who was sentenced the death penalty then i must have done something. something that makes others unsafe. might as well get rid of me before i get rid of more people"
"its just so wrong the principle "an eye for an eye" just causes so much more problems and i do not like this concept at all it is very primal and immoral"
"I believe that people can change an that there is no need for death penalty"
"First of all, if anything the death penalty could in a way be an easy punishment for the killer, because they don't have to LIVE with the pain. Secondly, "an eye for an eye makes the world blind", how is the death penalty really teaching a lesson if one to is killing which is NOT right. The Death penalty should be completely abolished, for these 2 and more reasons!"
"The idea of the death penalty is utter foolishness. Killing someone who commits a heinous crime does not bring justice. All it does is add to the still growing mountain of bodies. If anything, death would be a favor to the offender. It simply frees them of having to deal with the consequences of their actions. So, let's stop helping criminals get out of trouble and hold them accountable and let them rot in prison."
"now if it were you, what would you think ?"
"I think if you were dumb enough to do that bad of a crime you would deserve it."
"If you had a sibling , child , family member or friend on death row you would be so defensive and you would be even more defensive if they were innocent but still they have a death sentence. imagine what it is like to not be able to do anything and let the corrupt justice system take your loved one. My english is not well but my urge to make things right is beyond great."
""The real truth", maybe you didn't really understand me. In your opinion, you don't want to take another human live away, but what about the criminal who did take away the lives of so many innocent people? Do you think they thought about it and care about it? And let me ask you one thing, do you really think that in this CORRUPT JUSTICE SYSTEM, these criminals will pay their sentence? NO WAY!!! Instead they will just live their lives without a care about their actions. Don't you know how many criminals have escaped harsh punishment with bribery and corruption and instead are enjoying their lives. So, is that YOUR WAY OF JUSTICE AND PEACE? Death Penalty is not really about taking someone's life, its more about not letting a vile person who can create more havoc in the society to live. Its about not letting these macabre people do any more harm to other innocent people. And, sometimes they deserve even MUCH worse than death."
"The truth, you said if we have a family on the death row, but what if YOU had a family who was murdered and that too so brutally, would you have accepted to just let the criminal live freely as , let me tell you, don't think that prisons REALLY are effective as prisons instead have now become as homes for prisoners, providing much more comfort than homes. The death penalty will only provide a GENUINE justice to those innocent victims, and let me tell you, i am encouraging death penalty only in cases where the judiciary is sure to have catch the real culprit and not an innocent one."
"That is just the truth. there is no denying harsh feelings if one of my family member died but to say I want another human life taken away is foolish and injustice. In my opinion families who seek justice and peace by taking another human life is just as worse as pulling the trigger on your loved one. Let the system takes its course and let them sit in prison for years that is paying their sentence, killing them is quick and easy."
"If we execute someone for murder aren't we committing murder itself"
"It is true that its not much difference than a murder, but at least its a murder for a good cause. And, tell me one thing, other than this method, what can use to stop these monstrous creatures from killing innocent people? nowadays, criminals don't even fear going to prison, in fact prisons have much more comfort than homes provide. So, we have to kill these people as they do not deserve such grace to live freely in the society after committing such atrocious acts."
"we should not have the death penalty"
"Since 1977, one year after the Supreme Court reaffirmed the constitutionality of the death penalty, more than 1,480 people have been executed, primarily by means of lethal injection. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers although capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes. The death penalty is wrong because bad people should not be killed. Nobody wonts to die and the criminal's families do not have to cry over their dead loved one and besides who wont to pay for the funeral that can put a person in det. It will help the criminals and they families. The people that will get hurt the victims and the families because the victims and their families would be angry and sad that the man or woman that killed one of your loved ones. Lot of people won't revenge for their loved ones. It will benefit the criminal's family so then they do not have to pay for the funeral, and they will be sad. Death penalty, also known as capital punishment is a legal process where the state sends a death row inmate to execution as a punishment for a grave offense committed. Although not all crimes are punishable by death, there are strong opinions shared by both pro-death penalty"
"I say No. We can handle it in other ways. It's CruelDegradingInhumaneWhat about familiesPeople that are under the age of 18 will not have to have the death penalty. People should not be killed for killing. In my opinion they should be locked up for the rest of their life.If they don't have to do the death penalty they can be locked up for the rest of their life, and they have to live with the fact they have murdered someone or whatever crime they have committed."
"Really, if the death penalty is cruel, inhumane and degrading, the, what about those people who committed those barbaric and atrocious murders? Aren't these acts inhumane and cruel towards innocent people who lost their lives? People should not be killed for these acts, but be imprisoned? You really think so? Instead, nowadays, some prisons have become better than homes, providing all sorts of comfort, even include swimming pools. You really think those criminals will really reflect on their actions if they are imprisoned, or will they feel guilty? Never!!! They won't ever remember the faces of those innocent victims."
"You shouldn't kill a person just because they did something wrong in the world, you should give more acceptance."
"Give more acceptance to people who killed, raped and tortured innocent victims? Do you really think that ?"
"You are completely right ,a,. Giving acceptance to criminals just mean that we are accepting and welcoming such criminals in our society and encouraging them to continue their horrible acts."
"Okay. So if YOUR FREAKKKING FAMILY MEMBER was just murdered you'd go around skipping and all happy going "Oh we should just accept that. Cause you know murdering is fine and should be accepted? NO. Whoever does that is stupid."
"the death penalty is wrong. if you kill someone for murder your just as much of a murderer."
"Why be punished by death if you can just live in prison for the rest of your life."
"This is because maybe you don't know but nowadays some prisons are even better places than homes, providing all forms of comfort. Prisons even include spas, swimming pools, tv. Now, do you really think that criminals who have killed and tortured innocent people should just pay by living in such prisons? Is that what we call justice?"
"No because death is a cruel and you can't have cruel or unusual punishment as said by the 8th amendment so a life sentence would be the just thing to do for murder."
"The Golden Rule-treat others as you want to be treated. Right, now the government wants to be executed? The government shouldn't be enforcers of God's Golden Rule."
"ok. if that's right than the golden rule: "Treat other as you want to be treated". So if the murderer is treated as how they treated others they should be dead too. DUH. The murderer killed someone. Now they can be treated the same way. They can be killed too."
"I'm against the death penalty. People who have done terrible crimes should have to work in prison and pay for what they have done. Hopefully they can change and be rehabilitated, if not they just do more work. The death penalty doesn't work anyway cause people are still commiting serious crimes. Why not study the source of the problem. Also look at the damage it does to the remaining family and even the victims family.I think it's very inhuman to have the death penalty and another wrong decision just like allowing everyone to carry guns in the US."
"So, you really think that just by working in prison will change the minds of criminals. Studying the source of the problem won't solve anything as in a majority of cases, the source of crimes are usually insignificant and ridiculous reasons. For example, people can kill each other just for a cigarette. But the death penalty will be used as a weapon to scare away those horrible monsters taking innocents lives. And, instead wouldn't it act as a justice for the victim's family? Death penalty is inhuman yes, but what about those criminals who did even more inhuman acts? Should we let them live freely? I don't think they deserve such grace."
"the death penalty is dumb if the judge is condemn someone to death ask yourself what would Jesus do and before you say we are not Jesus or we don't believe in Jesus you still want to strive to be good if you take a life it should be self defense Jesus didn't kill even for that he let himself be killed death is the end of life if you want to end someone else and you do your guilty but if you kill them whats the point punishment? they cant do the right thing in death give them a chance or don't and lock them up but don't kill them its inhuman even for self deference your supposed to be holy good if you kill in the army you're forgiven but there is no war inside this country only inside the people themselves"
"The death punishment is seriously inhumane and should be abolished. We all know that what the killer did was wrong, but we could find a way to heal him/her so that he/she would never do it again. Besides, why do we teacher killers a lesson by just killing them? That's just wrong."
"Once upon a time, there was a young successful man living In a nice house and a friendly neighborhood. He had a wife, two kids, and was as healthy as anyone could possibly be. One day, his whole world turned upside down. A murder had been committed the night before and someone thought they saw him enter the victims house around midnight. He had been torn away from his sobbing family and taken to jail. He pleaded again and again that he was innocent, but it was no use. Twenty three years later...Once upon a time there was a man. He was the same man, and yet he was different. He had lost his health, business, and youth. And he had not heard from his family in twelve years. Could he lose any more? Had he suffered enough already? He was ushered into the courtroom. The judge and jury looked as if they wanted to get home as quickly as possible to watch the football game. Then he saw his family sitting in the corner! His children were all grown up, and his wife looked tired and worn. Why had this happened to him? What had he done to deserve this? Then came the dreaded sentence, Guilty as charged! Then the audience and members of the jury filled out...to watch the football game."
"That's true. And also, even of they had declared him innocent what would there be left for him in life. He had lost his job, health, and had missed his children's childhood."
"The death penalty is wrong and that is that. You might say that some people deserve to die for what they have done, and I will agree that they should be punished, but nobody deserves death. And no one has the authority to determine whether someone lives or dies. We should value life, no matter whose, over everything."
"Morals change and saying that something is "wrong" is literally just your opinion and sorry to say th is sweetie, but your opinion doesn't really matter. The people whose opinions matter are the ones who it affects the most, the family. If you were a family member of one of the murdered you might think differently. I am the neice of someone who was murdered just for money and the people who killed my uncle weren't even put in jail, and I bet everything I own that they did it again just because they could. And yes, I believe they deserve capital punishment for every single family they've ripped apart, including my mom's, a family who distanced themselves from each other and each fell into their own kind of depression because they didn't know how to grieve. I believe that no body deserves to be forgotten and I keep his memory alive through activism for the death penalty."
"even if the killer get killed the person who killed him/her wont come back so it really means your taking someone else live for justice the killer could change just give him/her a chance to improve"
"I think that the death penalty should not be used as a punishment in any situation because it is violating the core democratic value of life. No one deserves to die, even if they've committed a terrible crime. According to Sen. Daylin Leach, over 2,000 people were wrongly sentenced to death from 1989- 2012. This statement shocked me, and I believe that a way to bring that number to zero is to not use the death penalty. I think that the life sentence is enough for justice, but using the death sentence on a murderer is like an eye for an eye, which is closer to revenge than justice.Another reason to not use the death penalty is that the United States has spent billions of dollars on the death penalty since its reinstatement in 1972. The death penalty was used in the first place to deter people from commiting crimes, but, according to the ACLU, no state that has the death penalty has a significantly lower crime rate than a state without the death penalty."
"The death penalty shouldn't be allowed because if you kill someone than you die for it."
"I think it is not fair,we need to forgive and not kill our own kind,I mean think of it,should we kill people for killing others, should we kill our own kind, what if you where in that situation, you would think it won't be fair.Putting people in a cell for years and years will make them fell sorry for themselves and maybe even the person that they killed.I think it should be that way instead of killing people...right?"
"But can you give a reason for why people should forgive then? No-one is obligated to forgive someone who has wrong them just because they're human."
"As our society uses the Death Penalty to prevent future crime rates, it has mostly no deterrence. The question is that "Is the Death Penalty really useful?" That is the question our society needs to think about. In the future, people will already know cyberhacking so well that no one will know who did it. It may be useful to you, but I think that the Death Penalty shouldn't be allowed. For example, (just saying this is fake) a person died because of the Death Penalty for some really serious crime that shook the society. However, the officials found out that he wasn't the one who did it but he was innocent! That would mean that the person was wrongfully accused! These mistakes can turn fatal and it can be very detrimental to people. To say the truth, I may be an eleven-year-old kid but I am very interested in our society and I think that the death penalty shouldn't be allowed."
"Well, first of all, let me tell you, true that for an eleven year old, you are quite enthusiastic about your society. But, the thing is i think death penalty should be used only after being sure that the person is really guilty and when all strong evidences have been found. And, let me tell you, its not only about fear, but its about punishing those rascals which have took the decisions to ruin and to take the lives of innocent people. Its about not letting these monstrous people to continue to live freely in the society scaring other people. And, cybercrimes or not, death penalty would be equally useful as there would still be judiciary and advances in technology would help gather more strong evidences to catch these people. So, overall, death penalty should be used"
"Sam, here is another reply to you. I don't think rehabilitation is a good thing specially for criminals who committed many disastrous crimes. As the saying says,"a dog's tail can Never be straightened', similarly goes for such criminals who don't deserve such grace. Rehabilitation is just an excuse to let them live freely and not punishing them as they should have been."
"I agree with your opinion. However, there are other alternatives that can fix these criminals. They can be rehabilitated and I think that rehabilitation does have the effectiveness to help these criminals return to our society."
"how does it save lives and how are there less killers? when you kill someone you become a killer yourself. killing isn't justified it can never be justified. saying that there are now less killers in the world is false and don't give me that "murder and killing" isn't the same thing" cuz I call bull**** because the fact of the matter is a person is dead, innocent or not. When the person was born it's not like they just suddenly liked to kill people alright. these killers were once innocent children, but something happened to make them this way, but no one seems to care about that because instead of asking "what made you this way" we choose to just kill them out of pure hate not cause "iT's JusTicE" but because we are hateful people that like having blood shed but refuse to admit it which is why we choose to say that its justice or that its right or that it brings closure.good day."
"Killing a person who has murdered someone will get you no where."
"How will it get you nowhere, when the death penalty will bring justice to all those whose lives have been ruined. Justice will be given to those dead and innocent victims and, moreover the culprits will pay for their sins. Aren't those reasons good enough?"
"If you do a little research you will find the death penalty helps less than you think. There is the fact that it doesn't lower crime rate. The penalty actually increases it. When you execute someone you also run the risk of executing the innocent. Additionally, taxpayers pay an extra $5 to keep the prisoners in death row. It cost less for life in prison. In conclusion the death penalty is unnecessary and inhumane."
"The death penalty should not be allowed it is unnecessary."
""Unnecessary" Really. Do you think all those monstrous people who raped, tortured and killed so many innocent lives should just get away and live freely as if they have done nothing wrong? For example, do you know Junko Furuta? If not, then please go and read her case. Then , you will know that death penalty should be used."
"If an innocent person is wrongly convicted and executed, then the state has not killed a criminal but has in fact murdered somebody. If murderers should be killed, then the state should be executed for this murder. Where do we draw the line?"
"let say what if the person they killed was the wrong person. after the death new evidence comes to life and shows that another person did it. how will they explain to the family that they killed the wrong person. and now they have to kill the real person. it happens a lot. and you cant bring back that person from the dead. all the family get is an "I'm sorry" from the government. what good does that do. you might have token someone dad or mother. they took someone's son/daughter. and you cant bring them back."
"The death penalty is wrong! The government should not have the right to just take a life, and if they take the life of an innocent person and not the person who commited the crime, its just wrong. Have you ever thought about if your husband or wife or sister or brother or child or aunt or uncle or a grandparent got acused of a crime they did not do yet they got put on death row for it, and you the other day had voted yes for death row and your vote won the argument, how would you feel then that you had lead your family member to death?"
"An 11 year old has more sense than the government. I rest my case."
"Well there are lots of ways to stop innocent deaths and the biggest one is DNA testing."
"people call themselves a justice worker when they work for the gov. doing this. are you really one if you kill someone who has killed or done wrong? whould you really be a savior theem? think about it really!!"
"most serial killers were death panalteters"
"It isn't a deterrant and it doesn't actually save money. On averate it costs more to execute someone (after appeals etc) than it does to imprison them for life."
"I feel that, given evidence or not, the wrongful execution rate is up to 4.1%. Taking the risk of killing an innocent person's life is dangerous, and outrageous. It does not make sense to fight fire with fire because that has never gotten anyone anywhere. As of the other 96.99%, I feel that execution is far fetched and less of a punishment towards the murderer, and more to their loved ones, as they don't get to truly face the consequence, They should definitely rot in death row."
"You guys keep on saying that instead of risking your life for death take them to jail. What makes jail any better. There's still people who spent 10-20 years in jail and still come out the same. Why are you fighting for people who keep on doing wrong when you give them a chance?"
"because everyone needs chances not death"
"there shouldnt be one cause..its not like it going to bring your family member back whats the piont! Another thing what if your family member were sitting on death row how would you feel?"
"If Your family commits a crime like this, shouldn't they be punished? Would you be okay living with that?"
"How would you feel if your family member was murdered and the murderer got to live out their life given food, water and shelter, while your family member gets nothing?"
"How are we supposed to end killing by killing the killers?"
"They aren't killing for the fun of it like the murderer, they are trying to end it. It won't change much if the person is in prion their whole life."
"I don't know."
"when we kill for death penalty, what would we show people? that if someone does something wrong you can just kill them?"
"If you are killing a murderer, you're just as bad as they are. They are people too, many are just having problems in their minds. How could you live with yourself if you know you killed someone."
"In 2002 the US Supreme court declared that people identified with insanity and intellectual disabilities cannot be sentenced to death row or penalty."
"I hate the fact that people get killed after they kill someone, that is just super missed up."
"how is that messed up?"
"It shouldn't because many bad people should pay for their actions."
"If they kill 10 people, is killing them any better. Is killing 11 better than killing 10?"
"yeah because they'll stop killing. Killing 11 is better than killing 10+15"
"We aren't killing eleven people "Baka", we're ending the life of someone killed ten people."
"You right. Man I never thought about it like that"
"If they are in prison for life then they have to physically pay with how they spend the rest of their life, if they are just dead they are just dead, that's it, they are gone debt has been paid. but that is just it, it hasn't, they may be gone they may be off the streets but they also in my eyes got off too easy. I feel that we should lock them up throw away the key and then throw away the cell. they deserve to be gone forever but not by death."
"The death penalty is great! Just ignore all the people we've executed on false charges."
"A life sentence is great! Just ignore the murders left to rot and drown in their mental illness' while someone is murdered in cold-blood. :)"
"I'm confused on which side to be on, but if people are going to be Christians and quote the Bible, then you should know that people who have common sense would learn to forgive. They must have had some reason. Or it might have been a joke. But that doesn't ever mean that you have to take another life for it. I swear, soon enough, the human species will end itself. Good day to you."
"I kill you and another person. Should I be executed for it? Yes I should be cause you're taking away our right. Also yes the Human Species will end itself we're literally doing in right now on this very day."
"killing someone does not fix your problems."
"Umm yes it does thats why murder and rape crimes went down significantly once the death penalty was instituted back in 1973...."
"The death penalty is a quick way out. it allows the person who committed the crime to be able to leave behind their troubles. some people have committed crimes because they knew they would die quickly after. having the death penalty wouldn't scare me, it would make me fear the government because they seem to be making some pretty bad choices. with another point, there are worse things than death, everyone knows that. the fear of those things, knowing you would still live but be tortured, or some other thing, could set people straight. and the people who like to be tortured, or worse? I'll have you know that there's a weak spot in everybody."
"someone is salty here in the comments well i dont think they should be killed for something they didnt want to do what if they couldnt control themselves and they needed help with therapist"
"what if they didnt want to kill someone but something in them did. you basically killed someone that didnt want to kill anyone but did it anyway"
"So it is like having a bad demon on one shoulder and an angel on the other and I like how you said that"
"No it should be allowed because just finishing the person off will give them what they want if the get sent to prison for live they will just have to suffer and its better for them to suffer than just to kill them and give them what they want."
"I don't think that the death penalty should be allowed because if someone was to get the death penalty then they will have to died and they will have either have to stand in front of people and have blood coming out of your head/mouth and/or your whole body."
"Out of 7,482 death sentences from 1973-2004, 117 inmates were exonerated. It probably doesn't seem like a lot, but if it were you or someone very close to you, it would matter."
"Can you also tally the number of innocent victims and what if one of them were close to you? Also, this is 2018 - do you not think technology has advanced to reduce errors? Why would those old data be still valid?"
"if you are killing some you are killing your self but if you get a death penalty for killing some that is bad because people make mistakes and people got to under stand that yes you killed someone but your going to spend a boring time in prison for that that's like getting revenge your getting them back there spinding a boring time in prison eating nasty food maybe presidents want that but killing people for killing a other person is wrong"
"So if your country is being invaded, do you think it wrong to retaliate against the people in the invader's country? If not, then you contradict "killing people for killing a other person is wrong""
"The death penalty goes against our most basic human right - the right to lifeBeing killed by lethal injection or being electrocuted is not always smooth and painless, sometimes it causes a painful deathNo-one has ever proven with numbers that killing murderers stops other people committing similar crimesMistakes are sometimes made in the law - what if someone is killed who is actually innocent?"
"also in order for a successful lethal injection, doctors are needed. if they do anything to help, as much as check if victim is dead, they are going against the hypocrates oath"
"OK, so we lock someone up for a lifetime (which IS a death sentence) and they get cancer and die in excruciating pain because, according to your argument, we cannot administer a lethal injection to ease their suffering. Nasty..."
"For the bible thumping crowd, I thought a big teaching in the word of Christianity was that only God can pass final judgement, I think if God was the entity you claimed him to be so fervently, all human life, yours included would not be in his favor in the slightest and every last human soul on this planet deserves the fate a certain group of humans decide for another human who decided the fate of another human. Its a vicious chain of judgement upon judgement. 1 person decided another person should die for any reason, insane or meticulously planned and thought out, and another person in a certain position decides that person should die because of it. My point is there is a huge life/death/morality hypocrisy that exists in our advanced brains that creates debates like this one and causes a huge humanity defining rift in our species that makes us live tormenting and artificial lives when nature should be allowed to lead us the way it was might to from the beginning before humans gained the ability to develop sensations of greed, power and other unnecessary and unnatural complex thought patterns. The only thing that separates us from most animals is our ability to speak and create complex creations with our hands don't forget that"
"You got on here to share your views on Christianity, and say that nature should lead the way. Lead the way for what? If someone is a serial killer, what do you think their consequence should be?"
"I don't think serial killers like Ted Bundy took the death penalty to heart when committing his heinous acts. I don't think any true psychopathic person would stop and think twice about murdering a child because they could face a death sentence if caught, if that were the case, every state that still did it probably wouldn't have to anymore. It doesn't work, it is final, even after some accused and convicted death roll inmates have been proven to be in fact innocent after their final sentence has been carried out. For the religious what does that mean for the people who had a hand in a innocent person's death? It's final and absolute, i don't get how people can believe in end all be all, nothing after death or reincarnation can approve it when to me it seems like a escape from punishment. Death frees a person in many ways. Whether or not you believe in a after life doesn't change the crime and absolute final end in the punishment. I dead man can't repent for his terrible act against a child, he is free from the guilt he may have to live with and hatred directed at him and his existence. Death is peace and I don't think monsters that murder children deserves the gift of leaving this terrible world and escaping real punishment."
"You seem to think that "death is too good" for the worst criminals - but psychopaths, by their very nature, are not going to be repentant - they might actually like prison! One option would be to remove their sight and send them out after a long prison sentence, to see how they rate being the victim."
"I see what you're say but I would rather have a dead serial killer then one that could escape."
"The question is "is it alright to kill a humen being?" the answer is "NO" that would make us bad as they are we might as well use death penalty on ourselfs...if we use it it on them"
"more people would want to die rather than go so that is worse than death."
"the death penalty shouldn't be allowed because killing someone is still killing someone so you sexually assault someone then you get sexually assaulted??!! NO!"
"Would you be any better if you killed someone? Oh and also what if they been framed? What if someone always gets away with some the INNOCENT person who was killed MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL DIE. Also the people who do the death penaltys will have death wishes on them and the death penalty penalty people will be killed and and more people will die and then some people will be accidentally killed then again MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL DIE.So next time you think about saying you agree with death penaltys just think about this"
"People have lives. The pros may have more votes but they can't stop us from commenting."
"Since 1973, more than 160 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence (Factsheet). The death penalty is one of the most inhumane and hypocritical things our government does. The death penalty is never a good thing. It can hurt people in many ways. For example, The death penalty can kill many innocent people framed, or wrongly accused, and if they really did commit a crime we are just teaching people that it is ok to kill as long as the person your killing has also killed before. The capital punishment is extremely expensive, tax payers have unknowingly played over 5 billion dollars in taxes for the death row, averaging $388 million per person killed. This is all money that could go to much more useful things in America, for example the educational system, or healthcare. The Death penalty is useless, extremely overpriced, and can be deadly to innocent people. The death penalty is extremely expensive, as since 1978 Californian tax payers have spent over 5 billion dollars on the death roll, averaging $388 million per person killed. Most people do not even know that they are spending lots of their hard earned money on foolish things like this."
"NO NO NO...that's all I have to say :)"
"I think that this is a bad idea and should never ever have been an idea. It is just plain stupid."
"Human life is invaluable; it has infinite value. Killing murderers might justify their actions, but I do not believe it is the best option. People should be given second chances. My sister's pastor was once a thief who robbed banks. He came to know Christ in jail and is now a very godly man."
"that's a wee bit different ma boy"
"killin is not cheap it costs a life"
"the people that kill the murders.... Does that make them murders to? Because they are the ones doing the real killing."
"I think it shouldn't be allowed, due to the fact that they don't need to get out of it and die/be killed. They just need to rot in jail for a very long time, or even for the rest of their life. The End"
"I believe death penalty shouldn't be allow because death penalty is unjustifed because there are people are that innconent that are sitting in the death row."
"Extremely unlikely, ever heard of, "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"?"
"From 1973 to 2004 there were a recorded 7,482 executions out of all of those only 117 have been found innocent thats only around 1.6 percent, an augment is that those 117 should not have died and thats good enough reason to let them all live. First of all what should we do instead then just sent them all to jail, with my estimations quite a few of them would not be in for life and would probably later be released and do the same thing that got them in jail."
"its as bad as them"
"The death penalty is a disadvantage for America and should be banned or many innocent, helpless people will die in brutal, painful, and inhumane forms of death and punishment."
"The death penalty should be ceased because any religious person should know that you can go to hell by killing someone."
"You make a good point but not all religions are the same."
"Yeah who said god was even real at all."
"Just because they killed doesn't give us the right to do the same"
"So who gave them the right to kill on the 1st place. Please do explain!!"
"I think no, the murders have loved ones and families.the death penalty is also expensive, in 1987, the penalty costs 4 billion. sometimes the death plenty can kill innocent people."
"I agree with this side 1,000,000,000,000,000%!!!!"
"If we are trying to stop people from killing, then we have no saying in this, if we do the death penalty. The death penalty is also killing people."
"Humans have rights. One of those rights is the right to live. If we bring back the death penalty, aren't we denying a human being their right to live and rehabilitate? Of course some criminals are unable to rehabilitate, but that doesn't mean we deny them the right to live and breathe. They're human beings, they are one of us. No matter what they've done, they are one of us! We should stick together. Also, quite frankly, killing the killers is giving them the easy way out. People think prison is not a cruel enough place, but the whole point of prison is (if not rehabilitate) to make the prisoners think about what they've done. Our thoughts can be a LOT scarier than facing death. Death is the easy way out. Don't let it be an option. Ban the death penalty!"
"As much as I dont agree with the death penalty "Humans have right. One of those rights to live" Is not right. They lost there right by committing the crime that they did. They do have the right to sit in jail though."
"Yeah, I agree, and I also believe that prison is much too expensive, and a prison sentence is making the government suffer."
"There would have to be an exicushener and would he be deemed unholy for what they do."
"That's called a firing squad. You give 1 the bullet and no one knows who killed the person."
"It would be hard for there to be a death penalty for pitiful crimes like tagging a building what if it is a young kid will he not have the chance to turn his life around."
"No, It depends on the seriousness of the crimeIt doesn't matter what they do, you don't kill a person for any reason. if you kill a murderer, the number of murderers in the world remains unchanged. Sure an "eye for an eye" might seem pleasurable, but what does that say about our society That we are no better than the criminals themselvesIt's unreasonable to take the life of a human being in such a manner You shouldn't kill someone because of their crime it's just wrongs it's like you're the killer it wouldn't be acceptable even if they blew up entire planets but seriously who does that anywaydon't kill them all, bad guys could change but some good guys can't change If you were to kill a criminal because they murdered someone else, the you are no better than them."
"Why give a criminal the luxury of death when they should be punished. They aren't suffering the consequences when the Government decides to kill them off."
"Yeah, but then we are suffering for paying for the expenses of a lifelong prison sentence when we could just save our money and kill them."
"Sometimes these men could be falsely just look at the movie Shashank Redemption. The US is run by corrupted businesses who control everything. We need to stop giving what these men want and FIGHT back. Fight back because we all have the power to stop this and the power to say no."
"death penalty should not be allowed because the thing is you got look at yourself and make the world a better place"
"that is subjective, and doesn't make sense, you make the world a better place"
"the death penalty is unconstitutional and not ok no mater what you did people should not kill or tourture you it is inhumane and cruel"
"No. We see other people killing people and think it is the worst thing ever! When we ourselves are guilty of the same crime with the death penalty."
"Therese the difference between the two though. The criminal did the crime bringing it upon themselves to be punished as the government kills them to make sure they never do anything like that again and intimidate other criminals. So one is for a better purpose in the community."
"it's not in our power to kill someone just because they killed someone if they kill someone they have no fear of dying themselves so all the better to let them rot in jail till they die"
"Actually some do."
"Freedom the will to do what you wish if you decide to do something that bad then they deserve to be punished but us as americans don't have the right to take someone's life especially for the price of another's."
"Whoever thinks that the Death Penalty should be allowed, think of it this way,YOU'RE WRONG!!!!"
"Could you give us a reason why we're wrong?"
"The death penalty gives the government the right to kill people"
"Actually give the Executioner the right to kill people the Government(Judge and Accuse
